CRECHES

Crèche is a French word and means 'Infant Bed'; these days we use it as a term to describe a day care centre that will take care of children during the day whilst their parents go about their normal daily tasks. A day care centre usually caters for younger children who are not yet of an age to attend school; obviously once a child reaches school age then the educational establishment takes of the role of childcare as well as providing an education.

Care should be taken when choosing a child care centre, time must be spent ensuring that your child will be happy and comfortable with attending every day. Regular checks into how your child is being cared for are also highly recommended; just because a day care centre looked good for the first few weeks does not mean the situation will not change.

Studies performed independently would suggest that a good day care centre is not harmful to a child although some people argue that day care is inherently less beneficial than proper parenting. Alternative theory suggest that once a child reaches the age of two they are ready to learn how to interact with other children and adults, as such, a day centre would be beneficial to the development of a child. Bad day care will leave a child at risk of emotional and physical damage, often scaring a child for their entire life, therefore great care should be taken whilst selecting a day care< centre for you child.
